Fungal Culture and Stain

This test detects fungal infections in tissues, fluids, or skin. It helps diagnose conditions like:

• Fungal skin infections (ringworm, candidiasis)
• Respiratory fungal infections (aspergillosis, histoplasmosis)

There are two ways from which the sample is extracted:

• Skin scraping or nail clippings
• Blood or cerebrospinal fluid samples (for deep infections)

• Fungal stain results: Within a few hours
• Fungal culture results: May take days to weeks, depending on the fungus type

A doctor may prescribe antifungal medication, depending on the severity of the infection.
