About this test

The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) test is a blood test used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection. It detects antibodies produced by the body in response to infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum.

This test is mainly used as a screening tool, meaning it helps identify possible infection, but positive results are usually confirmed with more specific tests.

The VDRL test can also be used to monitor treatment response in patients already diagnosed with syphilis.
