Factor VII Activity Proconvertin Citrated Plasma

This test measures the activity of Factor VII, also known as proconvertin, which plays a crucial role in initiating the coagulation cascade. It is a vitamin K-dependent clotting factor produced in the liver.

The test is commonly done to investigate bleeding disorders, liver function, or to monitor patients on anticoagulant therapy. It can also help diagnose inherited or acquired Factor VII deficiency.

A blood sample is drawn into a blue-top tube containing sodium citrate. The plasma is separated and analyzed for clotting activity.

Low Factor VII activity may indicate a bleeding tendency due to deficiency, liver disease, or vitamin K deficiency. High levels can be associated with thrombotic risk.

Patients should inform the clinician of any medications, especially blood thinners or vitamin K supplements, as these can affect results.
