C-Peptide

Pancreases produce hormone called insulin. Insulin is a hormone that controls the body's glucose (blood sugar) levels. Glucose is your body's main source of energy. You may need to fast (not eat or drink) for 8–12 hours before a C-peptide blood test. 

Interpretation

Lower than normal levels indicate the body is not producing enough insulin, hence indicating type I diabetes or it can also mean that diabetes treatment is not responding well. Higher levels indicates too much insulin production but body is not able to use it in correct manner, indication of type II diabetes or insulin resistance.
