What is the Coxsackie IgM test?

This serological test detects IgM antibodies against Coxsackie viruses, which are part of the enterovirus group and associated with hand-foot-mouth disease, myocarditis, and other illnesses.


Why is the test performed?

It is ordered to diagnose a recent or ongoing infection with Coxsackie virus, especially in individuals showing relevant symptoms such as rash, fever, or chest pain.


What sample is needed, and how is it collected?

A blood sample is drawn and serum is separated for antibody testing via ELISA or immunofluorescence.


How are the results interpreted?

A positive result indicates recent infection. Negative results may not rule out infection, especially early in the disease.
